The RamCan™ can crusher is manufactured by RamCan (Aust) Pty Ltd located at Ottoway, Adelaide, South Australia.
It was first designed and built in 2000 by John Watson who also established South Australia’s first plastics recycling plant.
He was inspired to build RamCan™ after visiting hundreds of communities in the Northern Territory as Tidy Towns Competition judge for KABNT. He discovered a large scale problem of waste in rural, remote and island locations. Post consumer products are delivered to these locations mostly without the infrastructure to properly handle and dispose of post consumer waste such as beverage containers, plastic bottles cardboard.
John’s concern about the impact this would have on the environment coupled with his passion for recycling led him to build RamCan™. RamCan™ can crushers have been specifically designed to aid the process of handling and recycling aluminium cans, PET and HDPE plastic bottles.
The RamCan™ can crusher has the hydraulic capacity to reduce the volume by up to 90% being powered by a GX 270 Honda petrol motor and electric motor optional. It is a stand-alone mobile machine that can be towed and used in rural and remote community locations.
The first prototype could be used to crush cans only. It has since been updated to incorporate a baling mechanism, whereby plastic bottles and cardboard can also be crushed an tied off into a bale.
Thanks to John’s ingenuity and foresight, RamCan™ has helped many of Australia’s rural and remote communities manage waste through recycling, turn it into profits and create employment.
